Forget tool time. A 34-year-old man in Denver could potentially face jail time after being arrested for allegedly stealing Tim Allen's car.

Faustino Ibarra was taken into custody and charged with stealing a 1996 Chevy Impala from the Home Improvement star's Los Angeles home and driving it all the way to Colorado.

But Ibarra insists he's done nothing wrong, telling Fox affiliate KDVR that Allen actually adopted him several years ago.

"He's my dad," Ibarra told Fox 31's Justin Joseph from behind bars. "I emailed my dad the morning that I got the car in and everything is fine and I've got the car and it's ready for you and we need to talk about me coming to live with you."

Ibarra claimed he did not break into Allen's home, adding, "He left the door open and he left me the keys so I could get the car and take it to Denver."

Prosecutors in Los Angeles will reportedly decide this week whether to extradite Ibarra back to California to face charges.

Meanwhile, Allen's publicist tells E! News, "Since it's a police matter I cannot comment on it further."
