Tony Scott's Cause of Death Released, Now Officially a Suicide

Producer and director of Top Gun, Unstoppable jumped to his death from a Los Angeles bridge on Aug. 19

Tony Scott died of injuries suffered when he jumped off of a Los Angeles bridge into the ocean below on Aug. 19.

The unsurprising cause of death—multiple blunt force injuries—was released today by the L.A. County Department of Coroner, which also noted that the prolific filmmaker and TV producer drowned in what has now officially been classified as a suicide.

According to the coroner's findings, Scott also had therapeutic levels of Remeron, an antidepressant, and the sleep aid Lunesta in his system.

The 68-year-old director's family had shot down an initial report that Scott had inoperable brain cancer when he chose to take his own life, and there was no mention of cancer in the information released Monday.

The full report will be available within two weeks.

Scott was cremated back in August and his wife, Donna, took possession of his ashes. A private, family-only funeral was held Aug. 24.
