Now that the weather is officially chilly, we know it's certainly not easy dressing for warmth and style.

We caught up with fashion designer and California girl Whitney Port and asked her for three rules that every fashionista should obey this season.

Here's what the former reality star revealed:

1. Layer. With colder weather, this is the perfect way to get your clothes to pull double duty. "Layering is also a great way to add a pop of color to an otherwise ordinary outfit!"

2. Wear a Hat. "Hats are more than just an amazing accessory—they also help keep you warm!" she says. Wool hats are super stylish and will definitely help your body hold in the heat.

3. Dress for Comfort. While looking cute is always a bonus, your comfort should always come first. Flat boots over heels? You don't have to ask us twice!

With these savvy fashion guidelines in place, we encourage you to step out this season in style and stay warm!
