In honor of W's 40th anniversary, the magazine decided to scare the hell out of us with these four different, but equally terrifying, covers.

Keira Knightley, Mia Wasikowska, Rooney Mara and Scarlett Johansson grace the November issues—which appropriately hit stands on October 23, just in time for Halloween.

The idea behind these photos, shot by Steven Klein, was that each modern starlet would channel an iconic look from the past four decades. Let's review, shall we?

Behold, Keira primped up as Draco Malfoy in drag! But, really, she's meant to be Tilda Swinton circa the '00s in that Chanel tweed jacket. (So, we repeat, Draco Malfoy in drag.)

Then we have Ms. Mia in an homage to the ‘80s—we're thinking Rainbow Brite, by the look of those Solange Azagury-Partridge earrings.

Followed by ‘70s styled Rooney, whose Prada getup could easily double as a creepy haunted house version of Mary Poppins. We'd be petrified to try that spoonful of sugar.

And, to round out the coven of witches, we have Scarlett in Dolce & Gabbana with prematurely gray hair—undoubtedly the result of her horror at the previous three covers. We're told she's channeling the ‘90s, but, obviously, The Craft kind of ‘90s.

On the bright side, seeing these has given us a whole new slew of ideas for Halloween costumes!
