Remember when breakups happened behind closed doors and not on the Twitter feeds of a million followers? Ah, the simplicity of yesteryear: When splits only involved a Facebook update from "In a relationship" to, well, not.

Chris Zylka, the 27-year-old actor best known for playing the jock bully in The Amazing Spider-Man, raised eyebrows when he tweeted about separating from 23-year-old girlfriend, Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale.

But now he wants to clear some stuff up—starting with an apology.

Chris and Lucy's split plays out on Twitter

"I'd like to apologize about my previous comments," Chris tweeted. "Lucy is not only one of the most talented people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing but also one the most beautiful inside, and out. Anyone who's ever watched, or had the pleasure of meeting her knows this to be true."

That's certainly respectable of him to admit he was in the wrong. Oh, but wait...there's more:

"I apologize for tarnishing any view anyone has on this amazing women," he continued. "I had the honor of loving her. That love will never fade, as your love should never fade from her is well. She's going to change the world one day. And the last thing I want to do is be any reason for her to look bad in any way."

Oh, well. OK. You say there's more?! Yes, yes there is:

Chris writes, "She a remarkable human with an infectious personality, and a heart bigger than anyone's I've ever known. Proud to love her. And I'll continue to be her biggest fan as I know she will to me too. Love you all and be well and don't forget."

And, in case you didn't get the message, he had one final tweet referring to Lucy's Pretty Little Liars alter ego: "ARIA RULES!!!!!"

Perfect. But maybe now it's time to step away from the Twitter for a minute, OK Chris?
