So, did Demi Lovato's post-VMAs night out with the winning One Direction's Niall Horan mean something special?

"There is nothing going on. Niall's my friend," the 20-year-old X Factor judge told E! News today at a junket for the Fox show, which has its second-season premiere on Wednesday.

Lest you forget, Lovato and Horan, whose lad band picked up a leading three Moonmen at the MTV Video Music Awards last week, are both part of the X Factor family (which explains why the 18-year-old was tweeting both Lovato and L.A. Reid recently).

"I'm really happy for One Direction and the success that they've had," Lovato continued, noting how Simon Cowell helped form the group on the British X Factor. "It just goes to show you how crazy this competition is to making stars and the success that they have. He's a good friend of mine."

So, if Horan's not the lucky guy, is there anyone else out there who Lovato considers as more than a "good friend"?

"I'm just focusing on my work right now, and that's pretty much that," she said.

And there's certainly plenty of work! X Factor's second season kicks off with pretaped audition rounds this week, and even the judges don't know (or at least claim to not know) who's hosting!

"I have two favorites on that list," Lovato revealed when we read off the following celebs reportedly being considered: Khloé Kardashian Odom, Mario Lopez, Chrissy Teigen, Kevin Jonas, Corbin Bleu and Kevin McHale.

"Two of those I really like," added Reid, to which Lovato nodded in agreement.

"Samesies," she said.
