Avengers fanatics assemble...for some insanely awesome news!
ABC has given a pilot order to S.H.I.E.L.D., a project centering on Marvel's peacekeeping organization, E! News has confirmed.
But wait, it gets better! The Avengers director Joss Whedon is on board to executive produce and pen the project, along with his brother Jed Whedon and his wife, Maurissa Tanchareon. If his schedule permits, Whedon is also set to direct the pilot.
Just three weeks ago, Disney CEO and Chairman Bob Iger announced the company's plan to expand the Avengers universe to the small screen. The live-action project is set to go into production immediately.
S.H.I.E.L.D. is based on Jack Kirby's comic and revolves around the military law enforcement agency that has been featured in all of Marvel's superhero films. In case you aren't in the know, S.H.I.E.L.D. stands for Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistic Directorate.
The project marks Whedon's highly-anticipated return to TV. He created cult favorites Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly, as well as Fox's short-lived Dollhouse.
