Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, Take Note: Five Couples Who Survived Cheating Scandals—and Five Who Didn't!

For every Tiger Woods and Jesse James there's a David (Letterman and Boreanaz)

Eventually the furor over Kristen Stewart's "momentary indiscretion" will die down—but is it already too late for her and Robert Pattinson?

Tales of infidelity are a dime a dozen among the Hollywood set, some true, some without an iota of truth.

What we do know for sure in every case, however, is that it's entirely up to the couple whose relationship is under attack to decide how they want to go about life post-scandal. Plenty of famous twosomes have called it quits in the wake of news, proven or not, that one has been unfaithful. And still others stay together.

Here are five of each:

SPLITSVILLE

1. Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore: In October, 22-year-old Sara Leal from San Diego blabbed about an alleged night of "not weird or perverted" sex with Kutcher that took place while he was in town for a guys' weekend a month beforehand. According to Leal, the No Strings Attached star told her he was separated. Neither the actors nor their reps addressed the scandal head-on, K.Stew-style; but a month later, Kutcher was separated as Moore announced she was pulling the plug on their six-year marriage.

2. Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren: Unlike in golf, Woods obviously wasn't going for the low score. Like a tap that just won't turn off, woman after woman volunteered herself as one of the then-beloved athlete's former conquests after a mysterious car accident in front of the Woods family home on Nov. 27, 2009, led to Rachel Uchitel being identified as Mistress Zero (she planned, then canceled a press conference, leading to speculation that Team Woods bought her silence). Woods publicly apologized and even sought treatment for his, er, proclivities, but the parents of two were divorced by the following August.

3. Jesse James and Sandra Bullock: With images of Tiger's scandal still fresh in our heads, neither the public nor Mrs. James was having it when MIchelle "Bombshell" McGee announced she had a fling with the Monster Garage star, just weeks after Bullock won an Oscar for the all-of-a-sudden ironically titled The Blind Side. James admitted to "poor judgment," but also said the "vast majority" of things being said about him was untrue. Even more heartbreaking, it turned out the couple were in the process of adopting a son—whom Bullock has been proudly parenting ever since she announced she was leaving James in the dust.

4. Eddie Cibrian and Brandi Glanville: The very married Cibrian and the equally married LeAnn Rimes denied for some time that they had hooked up after meeting on the set of the 2009 TV movie Northern Lights. But Cibrian and Glanville, who have two sons together, filed for divorce that October and there was a negligible pause before Cibrian took up with Rimes, whom he married in April 2011. In a Great American Country documentary that aired the week before they tied the knot, Rimes admitted, "I know I didn't do it the right way. It got really messy, but I have learned a lot from that and I'm not glad it happened, but I know why it did." She added, "What happened is not who I am. It's not me at all." But while Rimesian seem about as happy as they can be, someone is still scarred. "I'm not happy with this K stew BS. 2 close to home," Glanville tweeted.

5. Jude Law and Sienna Miller: The rather charming duo called off their engagement in October 2005 after Law admitted over the summer to cheating with one of his three kids' nannies—a nanny who told London's Sunday Mirror that the actor made her "whole body tingle." Miller gave Law (who had since fathered his fourth child, this time with an ex-girlfriend) another chance in late 2009, but they broke up for good in early 2011. She is now mom to daughter Marlowe with fiancé Tom Sturridge.

STILL TOGETHER

1. David Letterman and Regina Lasko: The Late Show host made headlines in 2009 when he got the jump on a would-be extortionist by revealing on the air that he engaged in sexual activity with staff members, calling it "reckless behavior" and "stupidity." "When that happens, you're able to take a look at the pieces left of your life, because you think an explosion has taken place, and you're looking at the shards and you see, well, can we put this back together? And by God, maybe you can put it back together, and maybe it won't be the same, but maybe it'll be different—maybe it can even be better in a different way." Maybe laughter really is the best medicine, because he and Lasko, parents to 8-year-old son Harry, remain married.

2. David Boreanaz and Jaime Bergman: He certainly took the candid way out. The Buffy vampire turned Bones star got a little too friendly with Rachel Uchitel (of Tiger Woods fame), as we all learned after some sexts between the two went public in 2010. Boreanaz copped to being a bad boy, even revealing later that his mistake turned into a "bonding experience" for him and Bergman, who told People at the time she was "still angry," "still mad" and "still hurt." The parents of two are also still married.

3. Josh Duhamel & Fergie: The only lady lumps this guy claims to touch are Fergie's. Duhamel was enmeshed in scandal after stripper Nicole Forrester gave an interview to The National Enquirer in 2009, claiming she engaged in some intimate playtime with Duhamel while he was in Atlanta shooting Life As We Know It. The actor denied the allegations and called the story "absolutely ridiculous." Forrester pressed on, telling Extra, "She's standing by her man, so obviously I'm not wrecking the home too bad, huh?" To add insult to injury, she also cracked, "As far as the best sex? No, I don't think that was it." But big girls don't cry, and Fergie and Duhamel celebrated their third wedding anniversary in January.

4. Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker: Married since 1997, the New Yorkers triumphed over breakup rumors after Star magazine accused Broderick of stepping out in the city in July 2008. "We don't even bother to address them," Parker said about six months later, referring to all the tall tales out there. The couple went on to welcome twins via surrogate in June 2009.

5. Bill and Hillary Clinton: And some would have you think that the Robsten scandal is an issue of national importance! After first famously saying he "never had sexual relations" with Monica Lewinsky, the then-president of the United States (already accused of being an extramarital ladies' man before becoming POTUS) ultimately copped to bad behavior with the White House intern in 1998—and ended up being impeached for alleged obstruction of justice and perjury. His presidency survived and so did his marriage, as Hillary ended up being the poster woman for standing by one's man. They continue to thrive both separately (the secretary of state has been pretty busy for the last four years) and together, looking perfectly pleased with one another at daughter Chelsea's wedding last July.
