The royal family's golden girl lived up to her sobriquet in London today, as Kate Middleton kicked off the first of many Olympic-themed royal family-attended events.

The National Portrait Gallery patron turned up at the location this morning to open an exhibition of athlete portraits titled "Road to 2012: Aiming High."

And as usual, she had the perfect outfit for the occasion.

Donning a blue Stella McCartney dress (the official outfitter of Britain's Olympians, Team GB) clearly wasn't enough of a statement for the royal fashionista, and she topped off her look by draping a large gold ring pendant necklace around her neck.

Going for the gold, indeed. Hey, if there were medals for sartorial savvy, she'd come tops every time.

In any case, after perusing the portraits on show—which included a shirtless David Beckham (it's a tough job, but someone's got to do it), and her grandmother-in-law Queen Elizabeth II—she was treated to a private tour of the expansive gallery.

But the tour wasn't without its surprises, as she was also taken by one of the gallery's newest collection additions, a shot of the duchess herself. Her reaction?

"Oh no!"

Oh, so she's humble, too? Yeah, that's fair.
