All Jennifer Lopez has these days is sympathy for what friends Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are going through.

Following the shocking news that the A-list couple were divorcing, the singer-actress told Entertainment Tonight in a new interview that she was troubled by the split, especially since she knows what they're going through in the wake of her own separation last summer from fellow songster Marc Anthony.

"I'm sad for them," Lopez said. "They're both really lovely people, and just like Marc and I, it's not what you want to happen. You fight and you try and you try until you realize you can't anymore."

The What to Expect When You're Expecting star noted that she had not spoken to either Tom or Katie and was taken aback when the latter filed for divorce last month, though Lopez indicated she has "thought about it a lot."

"I heard about it when I was in South America and I was stunned," she added.

J.Lo also expressed hope that their transition to separate lives would not negatively impact Cruise and Holmes' 6-year-old daughter, Suri, as well as Cruise's two adopted children, Connor and Isabella, from his previous marriage to Nicole Kidman.

"You know I just wish them peace in their decision. And really for Suri and their other children as well, because you become such a family. It's not just Suri, it's Connor and Isabella and everybody; you all become a family," she said. "And when that breaks apart, nobody wins; everybody's heartbroken in some way. And I just wish them peace."

Meanwhile, shortly after learning her fellow American Idol judge Steven Tyler would not be returning to his "mistress," er, the judging panel next season, Lopez weighed in on whether or not she'll be back, saying she's still mulling it over.

"The decision is like, this close to being made," she revealed, squeezing two fingers together to indicate just how close.

She told Idol fans it could still go either way.

"All hope is never gone," Lopez added. "It pulls at me; I love it. But I also know that there's a lot of things that I put aside for it, and I just don't know how much longer I can do that."
