For Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, it was business but not quite as usual the day after they reached a quick and private settlement of their divorce.
So, what has the entity formerly known as TomKat been up to in the 24 hours since the parting of their ways?
For Cruise's part, he proved to be a consummate pro.
Following the rather abrupt end to his and Holmes' quickie divorce negotiations, the movie star returned to the set of Oblivion this morning, his first time back at work in more than a week. The 50-year-old action hero was captured on location in June Lake, Calif., bright and early, continuing shooting on the sci-fi thriller that was previously in production in Iceland (which is where Tom was when news of the split first broke).
And he was clearly welcomed with open arms—paparazzi caught Cruise on the receiving end of a couple hugs from the crew.
The soon-to-be three-time divorcé arrived in nearby Mammoth yesterday afternoon and quickly hunkered down.
"He's staying in a private house by himself with some assistants, of course," a source told E! News. "He is laying low and it seems to be strictly business...he has been spotted on his cell phone a lot."
As for his arrival on set this morning, the source adds, "He was happy and was hugging lots of people and laughing."
The most notable though hardly surprising detail of his arrival, however, was undoubtedly this: Cruise was not wearing his wedding ring.
Meanwhile, Katie wasn't wasting any time hiding out, either, as she made her rounds on the opposite coast.
Just hours after news of the settlement broke yesterday, for the second time in the past week, she and Suri—the terms of who's custody deal remain under the strictest of confidential wraps, but who is widely believed to be spending the bulk of her time with Holmes per the couple's agreement—hit up the Children's Museum of the Arts (summer class session, anyone?).
Hey, if a country between them is what it takes to keep this split civil, so be it.
