Matthew Fox is a long way from Dr. Jack Shephard on ABC's Lost

And by the looks of the cage fighter/serial killer he plays in Alex Cross—for which he radically transformed his body into 100 percent lean, mean muscle—we're pretty sure he won't be shedding any tears like his TV alter-ego either.

That's because in the latest trailer for the upcoming flick, Fox completely sheds his good guy image and goes up against...Madea?! Take a look.

In the clip, the 45-year-old thesp proves he can do bad all by himself, costarring opposite Hollywood hyphenate Tyler Perry, who's taking on the titular hero in the latest incarnation of author James Patterson's famed detective. The part was previously played on the big screen by Morgan Freeman in Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider.

The action thriller, directed by The Fast and the Furious helmer Rob Cohen, finds Cross this time around investigating a series of murders committed by ex-military hitman, Matthew "The Butcher" Sullivan (Fox). The story heats up when Sullivan—shades of Robert De Niro's sadistic Max Cady in 1991's Cape Fear—goes after Alex's wife, hurtling the story towards a climactic end.

Perry replaces Prometheus' Idris Elba, who was originally cast in the lead but dropped out last year.

So does Tyler have the chops to take on such an iconic role? We'll have to wait until Oct. 19 when the film hits theaters to find out.
