The Kennedy dynasty has incurred another tragedy.

Mary Kennedy, the 52-year-old estranged wife of political-family scion and environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr., was found dead at her husband's home in Bedford, N.Y.

They had four children together.

Police did not release her identity in their initial statement, but the family has since confirmed that the "deceased individual" found in an "out building" on the property was indeed Mary Kennedy.

"We deeply regret the death of our beloved sister Mary, whose radiant and creative spirit will be sorely missed by those who loved her," her family said in a statement released by their lawyer to E! News. "Our heart goes out to her children who she loved without reservation. We have no further comment at this time."

Meanwhile, the Bedford Police Department and Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office are investigating her death.

Robert Jr., the third of Bobby Kennedy's 11 children, had filed for divorce from Mary in 2010 after 16 years of marriage. Three days later, she was arrested on suspicion of DUI and ultimately pleaded guilty, resulting in the suspension of her license.

An environmental activist with many ties to Hollywood, Robert Jr. shared the cover of Vanity Fair's first inaugural "Green Issue" with Al Gore, George Clooney and Julia Roberts.

Mary was Robert Jr.'s second wife.
