Did Richard Gere Really Slam Pretty Woman as a "Silly Romantic Comedy"?

Aussie mag claims the star trashes the beloved romantic flick that catapulted him to leading-man status and turned Julia Roberts into a superstar

This isn't so pretty now, is it?

Pretty Woman may be one of the most successful romantic flicks of all time, and it may have catapulted Richard Gere to leading-man stardom and Julia Roberts to meteoric superstardom.

But if certain reports are to be believed, the actor doesn't seem to be feeling too warm and fuzzy about it.

Australian mag Woman's Day is touting a supposedly "exclusive interview" with the star, in which Gere reportedly told the publication that Pretty Woman is "my least favorite thing."

He reportedly added, "People ask me about that movie, but I've forgotten it. That was a silly romantic comedy." The mag also claimed that Gere spoke about his new financial thriller, Arbitrage, saying it is "much more serious" than Pretty Woman and "has some real cause and effect."

A rep for Gere, however, refutes the magazine's story and tells E! News, "He did not give an interview to this publication."

So much, then, for the mag's allegations that Gere told them his millionaire-mogul character in Pretty Woman "made those guys seem dashing, which was so wrong...Thankfully, today, we are all more skeptical of those guys."

Skeptical indeed, to make you wonder why Gere would ever speak so harshly about the beloved movie.
