Matthew McConaughey has galloped back to Texas.

The actor announced at the Texas Hall of Fame gala on Thursday that he and his bride-to-be Camila Alves, recently relocated from L.A. to his home state with their kids, Levi and Vida.

Why the big move, and have they ditched California for good?

"Family!" McConaughey told me last night at the South by Southwest premiere of his NC-17 flick, Killer Joe, at Austin's Paramount Theatre. "I grew up here. We got children, family values, neighbors and common sense—and I can catch a greenlight in Texas."

McConaughey arrived at the premiere in a party bus full of family and friends.

He rocked a black cowboy hat and shirt, brown boots and tight-fittin' Levis. Alves was stunning in a green dress.

"Anytime I can get any movie of mine playing in Austin, it's great," McConaughey said. "It feels homegrown for me. I feel like a local when I'm walking around here, going down the street in my neighborhood, in my town."

But he hasn't ditched Los Angeles for good. "I'm not done with it," McConaughey said. "Thankfully, I'm able to have a home there and a home here."

Another of his films, Bernie, also premieres at SXSW on Wednesday.
