How's that "being human" thing working out for ya?

If you happen to be the supernatural housemates in Being Human (returning tonight on Syfy), the answer is a resounding not so much.

In fact, stars Sam Witwer, Meaghan Rath and Sam Huntington told us we will see a much darker—and more nekkid!—sophomore season for the tormented vampire, ghost and werewolf…

"It is a darker show this time around," Witwer told us. "If the first season was about them building this house and this home and trying to reconnect with their humanity, this season…we are all off on our individual own paths—getting really dark and naked."

Huntington especially, who—like every werewolf you know—finds himself stripping down in the woods. "I tried to get in good shape this year," said the slim actor, joking: "As you'll see it didn't work. [And ] since we wrapped I've I think I've gained 100 pounds."

In order to finally free himself of the mafia-like vampire community, Aidan agrees to do some very bad things with a very bad girl—a resurrected vampire who brings as much crazy as Buffy's Drusilla (and she's played, appropriately enough, by Dollhouse's Dichen Lachman).

With her door to the afterlife slammed shut, Sally starts hanging with a bad crowd—other ghosts who feed her new addiction to possession. "We really get a lot into different aspects of the afterlife," says Rath.

"People don't know what happens in the afterlife, and we're happy to now finally reveal exactly what happens," Witwer quips. "We've extensively researched it."

How exactly did they conduct their research? You can thank Sam Huntington, who  took one for the team on this one.

"Witwer strangled me to death, and then Meaghan revived me," he said, bragging that "I actually wrote Meaghan's storyline this season, and I'm really proud of it. I wanted to know, so it was super cool of me."

So if you want to know the answer to "the age-old question of what happens after you die," Witwer says, "Well, watch the show."

Being Human's second season premieres tonight at 9 on Syfy.

(Syfy and E! are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
