Nice to see some things never change. As it happens, Snoop Dogg is still playing that same old record, and was busted for possession of marijuana while driving through Texas over the weekend.

So, how did the Dogg get sniffed out?

E! News confirms the rapper was stopped at a Border Patrol checkpoint by the Hudspeth County Sheriff's Department's finest in Sierra Blanca, Texas, a small town just outside El Paso. Per officials, the stop took place on Saturday morning at approximately 3 a.m.

The bus was searched by officials during a routine check and after the deputy conducting the search smelled a strong odor of marijuana, they pulled the tour bus over for a secondary, more thorough inspection.

A sniffer dog made the discovery, sussing out a trashcan where a red prescription bottle containing rolled joints was discovered. A further search also unearthed two other containers of pot, weighing a total of 0.13 pounds.

Snoop was cited for misdemeanor drug possession and detained, though was not taken into further custody and released after being cited (and freely admitting the pot was his). As for what he was doing in town, according to his Twitter page, the rapper spent the weekend in San Antonio, where he attended the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Incidentally, the 40-year-old isn't the first musician to get busted in West Texas. Willie Nelson was arrested for possession while traveling through the exact same small town checkpoint back in 2010, while rappers Paul Wall and Baby Bash also got arrested for pot possession in the drug-free zone of El Paso last fall.

Snoop is due back in court on Jan. 20.
