Kris Connor/WireImageThe Duggar family's faith helped get them through. And so too did the hundreds of mourners and well-wishers who gathered together with them Wednesday afternoon to memorialize the child Michelle Duggar lost in a heartbreaking miscarriage.
The ceremony for the girl they posthumously named Jubilee Shalom took place in Springdale, Ark., yesterday.
"I feel a great sorrow and grief, and yet at the same time I have a peace in my heart," Michelle said during the memorial, according to People. "This is so sad, but I have peace.
"There are people praying for us and angels surrounding our home, and there was peace in the sorrow and the grief. Those feelings are mingled together."
Per People, a letter Michelle had written and recorded to Jubilee (who would have been Michelle's 20th) was also played during the memorial. Her reason for recording it was simple: she would never be able to get through it herself at the emotional gathering.
Duggar said she wanted to "pour my heart out to Jubilee, and I knew there was no way I could read this at the service."
Also on display at the event were photos taken by the nonprofit organization Now I Lay Me Down, which specializes in helping families through the loss of babies and miscarriages. Despite some unconsionable leaks, a spokesperson said the images were never intended to be publicly released and were simply for the family.
"I really believe that God sees the bigger picture," Jim Bob Duggar said. "I hope that her short life can encourage other people who have gone through things like this. It was very healing, and we have precious memories."
