Does George Clooney have what it takes to bring down Robert Pattinson?

The Oscar winner's new movie, The Descendants, and Breaking Dawn both open this weekend.

Clooney says he's ready to take down the bloodsucking competition...

"There's a lot of talk that we're going to beat them," he told me with a big wink at The Descendants premiere last night at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills.

"We are going against Breaking Dawn, but the big headlines come Monday morning will be, "Descendants Kicks the Hell Out of Breaking Dawn.' "

When I suggest it would be, 'George Clooney Kicks the Hell Out of Robert Pattinson," he laughed, "Oh, I hope so."

Based on the 2007 novel of the same name, The Descendants centers on a man (Clooney) who's forced to raise his two young daughters after he loses his wife in a tragic boating accident.

The Oscar buzz is on high once again for Clooney, as well as for costar Shailene Woodley (The Secret Life of the American Teenager) and director Alexander Payne (Sideways).

"You just want to make movies that you like, honestly," Clooney said. "Does anyone really remember who won three years ago? You really don't. But I remember All The President's Men and I remember Network and I remember Taxi Driver. I pay attention to the stuff I really love, which is making films. The rest of it, I don't worry about so much."
