The on-off twosome was in court in Indiana today to resolve some issues over daughter Leah. And the result?
"Well, we have joint custody," Portwood exclusively tells E! News.
See, although Shirley's name is on Leah's birth certificate, in Indiana (and a majority of other states), a child isn't legally entitled to claim benefits from a father if a couple isn't legally married at birth, unless there is some record of him accepting paternity.
Since they weren't hitched and Shirley had yet to do accept paternity, today's hearing was to remedy that.
Now, both parents have joint custody, making sure their little girl is taken care of.
With all this family has gone through—just last month Portwood confessed she felt depressed and suicidal despite a recent stint in treatment—we're hoping this results in a little stability, especially for Leah.
