Taylor Lautner is not getting ready to shoot a movie with director Gus Van Sant.

It's not like he doesn't want to some day, but...

The Twilight star says it's way too early to talk about anything. Lautner is reportedly is close to starring in and producing a flick directed by Van Sant that's apparently based on a nonfiction article in The New Yorker, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"It's very premature," Lautner told reporters yesterday while promoting Breaking Dawn.

He said, "He is a very a talented director who I've always looked up to and I've always wanted to work with."

Speculation arose that screenwriter Dustin Lance Black would do the scripting because he, Lautner and Van Sant had dinner together this summer. It would have reunited Black and the director since collaborating on Milk.

However, Black told me at the J. Edgar premiere at the AFI Film Festival last night that he has nothing to do with the supposed project. "Taylor is a friend and obviously I know Gus, but I'm not doing that," he said.

Black is finishing up a script for The Barefoot Bandit about teen serial burglar Colton Harris-Moore and is next set to adapt Jon Krakauer's Under the Banner of Heaven.

He would love to see Van Sant and Lautner collaborate. "Gus has been so adept in the past at getting people to get to their best performances, and I would really love to see Taylor at his best, and I don't know that we've see it yet," Black told Enterainment Weekly. "I think that if someone can help him find the best him on screen, it's Gus."

"He's cool," Van Sant told us of Lautner in August after the two were spotted seeing Iris together in Hollywood. "It would be cool to do something together."
