The biggest surprise performer at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night?

Beyoncé's baby bump!

The superstar stole the show thanks to her big announcement, even sharing the happy news during the show. "I want you to feel the love that's growing inside of me,"  she told the crowd before her performance of "Love on Top."

Still that's not all that went down...

Lady Gaga outdid herself... again! Gaga skipped the red carpet, but opened the show with a performance of her new single "Yoü And I." Of course, where there's Gaga, there's a twist: Gaga performed the song as her male alter-ego Jo Calderone. In fact, Jo decided to stick around for the entire night.

Jo presented Ms. Britney Spears with MTV's annual Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and shared an intimate moment with the pop star on stage. Britney and Jo were this close to kissing before Britney pulled away, saying, "I've done that already!" Later, Jo accepted the award for Best Female Video on behalf of Lady Gaga (for "Born This Way").

Adult and child dancers also took the stage to pay tribute to Britney, reenacting some of her most famous videos, including "Baby One More Time," "Toxic," "Circus," "Hold It Against Me" and "Till The World Ends" among others. Britney watched the tribute with a huge smile on her face the entire time.

The night's other highlights include Adele's understated and poignant performance of "Someone Like You," Justin Bieber winning Best Male Video for "U Smile" and Katy Perry going home with the night's biggest award, Video of the Year, for "Firework." Oh, and Raising Hope's Cloris Leachman saying she was "DTF" with Jersey Shore's Pauly D. Can't forget that now, can we?
