Following his hospital discharge just a week ago, Gavin Degraw is still recovering, but says he's excited to get back on the road again.

"Instead of checking in from the tour, I'm writing as I recover at home," Degraw told VH1. "I'm feeling much better, but it will take a little bit more time to be back to 100 percent! I'm overwhelmed with the outpouring of support from my fans, friends and family. I can't wait to get back out on tour and look forward to seeing you on the road sometime soon."

The "I Don't Want to Be" singer-songwriter was the victim of a brutal assault in New York City earlier this month, when he was beaten by a group of men who left him with a broken nose, cuts, bruises and a concussion.

While attempting to flee from his assailants, DeGraw was hit by a cab.

The musician has continued to provide updates regarding his condition to fans via Twitter following the incident, but this is the first time he's been interviewed since leaving the hospital.

We wish him the best in his recovery.
