It's been a good news, bad news week for Sofia Vergara and her very own modern family.

Just a day after her sexy sister scored some prime Maxim real estate, comes word that the Emmy-nominated actress's screw-up brother has been given the heave-ho from the U.S.

And it's no run-of-the-mill offense that got Julio Vergara booted back to his native Colombia...

See, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Sofia's younger brother has been arrested not once, not twice, but more than two dozen times over the past 10 years.

Despite his sister's support, Julio has been battling an intense drug addiction, which contributed to his myriad appearances in Miami-Dade County Court.

His last arrest came in April, and that was the final straw.

"ICE placed Mr. Vergara in removal proceedings. On April 26, 2011, an immigration judge determined that he was no longer eligible to remain in the U.S. because his criminal convictions are considered felonies under U.S. immigration law and ordered him removed to his home country of Colombia.

"ICE carried out Mr. Vergara's removal on May 9, 2011, as mandated by law," an agency spokesman confirms to E! News.

There was no immediate comment from Sofia's rep on the deportation.

Sofia moved to the U.S. in 1994 with her son, Manolo, now 19, after she was divorced back home. Julio followed shortly after.

Meanwhile, Sofia can take some pride in her little sister. Sandra Vergara has lived with Sofia for four years now and is currently posing in nothing but lingerie in the latest issue of Maxim. And yup, she's as smokin' hot as her sister.

Sandra is also is also appearing in the Fright Night, out later this month.
