Is the world ready for another round of girl power? Actually, let us qualify that: another round of girl power courtesy of the Spice Girls?

That's what anyone following erstwhile Scary Spice Melanie Brown was bracing for last week, when we she and Union Jack pleather dress wearer extraordinaire Geri Halliwell seemed to hash out a deal to try and publicly cajole Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton and Melanie Chisholm into reuniting one more time for another trek round the world.

But could it possibly be true? Are fans ready to zig-a-zig-ah once more? Are the Spices extending their shelf-life yet again? Hang on to your stripper-worthy platforms, because this rumor is really, really, really…

So false!

As if designer-to-the-stars and ready-to-burst Victoria Beckham would allow her career to regress back to cheesy pop.

But chalk this rumor up to a simple hoax, fallen for by none other than Mel B.

Last week, she began responding to messages sent by a Twitterer going by the name @GeriHalliwell1, and when the possibility of a reunion was suggested by her presumptive former bandmate, Brown jumped right in.

"Whoop whoop hands up for another spice tour!!!!! Count me in @GeriHalliwell1," she wrote.

"Hope the other girls say yes, to spice touring again, to perform spice songs again would be AMAZING, spice fans here we come, fingers crossed."

Horse, cart, arrange accordingly.

However, Brown quickly (though only partially) realized the error of her ways, and apologized to fans, explaining that her former bandmate's account had been hacked—which wasn't exactly true.

"Ahhhh shoot @GeriHalliwell1 got hacked boo hoo snap!! I nearly had my leopard print catsuit on!!!" she wrote.

However, Halliwell's account hadn't so much been hacked as faked, as the account never belonged to the artist formerly known as Ginger.

"Everyone…@GeriHalliwell1 is a FAKE!!!!! Do not follow! She's being reported now…" Mel B retweeted. The account has since been deleted.

Oh well. Back in the closet with those platforms, then.
