Demi Lovato understands.

The 18-year-old, having recently opened up about her own health issues and emotional struggles, has offered words of support to Catherine Zeta-Jones, whose rep dropped a bomb yesterday when she revealed that the Oscar winner had checked into a mental-health center to be treated for Bipolar II disorder.

"I don't know Catherine Zeta-Jones personally but what she has decided to do it SO brave.. And SO difficult but worth it... I'm proud of her," Lovato tweeted Thursday.

Zeta-Jones checked herself into an undisclosed facility for a brief stay to deal with issues compounded by the stress of the past year, during which husband Michael Douglas battled throat cancer, according to her rep. The Chicago star was expected to start working on her next two films this week.

Rarely enough, the words of celebrity wisdom are coming from someone who gets it. Lovato spent almost three months in a Chicago treatment facility after she "basically had a nervous breakdown" last fall, as she put it to Seventeen magazine.

The Sonny With a Chance star also admitted to suffering from an eating disorder, acknowledging that it's "a life-long disease" that she will always be battling. But so far, so good.

"Getting a healthy workout in then heading to....... The studio ;)," she also tweeted this afternoon.
