When it comes to being a tunesmith, Britney Spears is no Lady Gaga...or Christina Aguilera for that matter. Until now.

Spears' rep tells E! News that reports the pop princess will cowrite the song "Whiplash" for fellow Disney alum Selena Gomez's upcoming third album are...true!

Talk about an honor!

The collaboration is good news for the 18-year-old Gomez who worships the ground Spears walks on.

In fact, the "Round & Round" singer told Ryan Seacrest last month on his radio show that Britney was the first concert she ever went to.

And to show her deepest affection for her idol, Gomez confirmed that she and her band, Selena Gomez & The Scene, will perform a lengthy tribute to Spears on their upcoming summer tour, which will likely include covers of the latter's hits "Baby One More Time" and "Toxic."

For Britney, putting pen to paper is something of an event these days given that she has not a single cowriting credit to her name on her new album, Femme Fatale.

Instead, Spear has left the dirty work to an ever-expanding cadre of composers—one of whom by the way is rising pop rival Ke$ha who cowrote her latest single "Til the World Ends"—while she sticks to performing. Though it should be noted that Brit did write her hit, "Me Against the Music."

Whatever she's planning for Selena, let's hope it's a good one. Gomez's yet-to-be-titled new album drops on June 28.
