Has Sean Penn been tamed? The formerly unapologetic hell-raiser has been making headlines lately for his ongoing stand-up work helping Haitian earthquake victims and attending A-list weddings on the arm of his new ladylove, Scarlett Johansson.

Now, he's even making nice with paparazzi. What gives?

Whether or not he's a changed man remains to be seen, but this much we know: Penn has settled a civil suit brought by the shutterbug he roughed up back in 2009.

The Fair Game star pleaded no contest last May to putting the hurt on shutterbug Jordan Dawes with a solid kick to the knee. As part of a deal with prosecutors, Penn avoided the slammer, but received three years of probation, was ordered to perform 300 hours of community service and ordered to take an anger-management class.

Dawes subsequently sued the two-time Oscar winner for undisclosed damages, citing medical expenses  and other pain and suffering as the result of a leg injury.

No word on the terms of the deal, which was first reported by TMZ. Penn's camp has so far declined to comment.
