Nate Dogg helped put the Long Beach, Calif., rap scene on the map and he remained a man of the people.

Especially the ones in the Dogg Pound.

We dipped into the E! News archives to bring you interviews with the late rapper from 2005, when he described Snoop Dogg's journey from a "naïve young superstar into a grown-ass man" for an E! True Hollywood Story, and from 1999, when E! caught up with the hitmaker on the red carpet at the Source Awards.

It's far preferable to remember Nate Dogg as healthy, wealthy and wise, so sit back and enjoy the history.
