Jeffrey Donovan didn't get burned so much as singed.

The star of USA Network's Burn Notice struck a plea deal with Miami prosecutors in his DUI case that will see him avoid jail for drunk driving in exchange for pleading guilty to a lesser charge of reckless driving.

We'd say that was an intelligent decision.

According to documents filed in a Miami court and obtained by E! News, Donovan was sentenced to six months probation and fined more than $1,000 along with court costs.

The 42-year-old thesp got into this mess when he nearly plowed his Audi into a police car on his way home from the hotel Fontainebleau on July 19, 2009. Per the police report, cops smelled alcohol on his breath and noticed he had bloodshot eyes. After refusing to take a Breathalyzer, Donovan reportedly told his arresting officer, "the only mistake I made tonight was drinking Benadryl with three glasses of wine."

That mistake almost landed him six months in the slammer—a far cry from the charmed life Donovan's been living filming his hit series, Burn Notice, down in the Sunshine State.

The good news is he'll likely be done with probation by the time season five debuts this summer. Donovan's currently passing the time in Bogota, Columbia, helming a prequel movie headlining Burn costar Bruce Campbell.
