George Lopez won't be joining the ranks of Clint Eastwood, Ronald Reagan or Arnold Schwarzenegger anytime soon.

The Lopez Tonight host's revelation Tuesday on Good Day L.A. that he plans to run for mayor of Los Angeles in eight years? Just a joke, his rep said a few hours later.

"I am going to run for—although I don't believe I'll pass the background check now—I do intend to run for mayor, at some point," a mock-dead serious Lopez said on the morning show.

"I want to be mayor of Los Angeles!" the 49-year-old insisted, segueing into his funnyman persona. "If Arnold Schwarzenegger can be governor, why can't George Lopez be the mayor of Los Angeles? We have Obama, we'll have LoBama. I won't want change, I will want your change."

Well, he's already mastered hammering home his talking points, in case he ever changes his mind.
