The dinged-up Dallas Cowboy quarterback ensured girlfriend Candice Crawford had a very happy 24th birthday, choosing a celebratory dinner with her family as the place to pop the question.
KDAF-TV, where Crawford works as a sports reporter, was first to report the engagement—and share a picture of the impressive sparkler Romo picked out for the former Miss Missouri. (No word on whether Crawford's big brother, Chace, was there as well.)
Well, Jessica Simpson knows what question she's going to be asked next time she shows her face in public...
Simpson, who was unceremoniously dumped by her Cowboy in July 2009, patiently fielded questions about ex-husband Nick Lachey's engagement to Vanessa Minnillo just last month.
"I am extremely, extremely happy for him," she told Ryan Seacrest on KIIS-FM, trying to put quash the rumors that Nick's pending nuptials had put her in a funk.
But while two engaged exes might have been a lot to deal with if Simpson were still searching for Mr. Right, she's found him—or a diamond, at least—in retired football pro Eric Johnson.
