Frank Ryan

Oprah can rest easy, Dr. Frank Ryan was not texting and driving.

The California Highway Patrol has determined that an unsafe turn—as opposed to tweeting about hiking with his dog—was the official cause of the car crash that killed the celebrity plastic surgeon, a CHP spokesman confirms to E! News.

The 50-year-old Beverly Hills surgeon, famous for, uh, adjusting the appearances of patients Janice Dickinson, Gene Simmons, Vince Neil, Kristin Cavallari and Lorenzo Lamas, died on Aug. 16 after his SUV tumbled off the Pacific Coast Highway outside Malibu.

Investigators concluded that after making the unsafe turn, Ryan's 1995 Jeep Wrangler drifted offroad and overturned down a rocky coastal embankment. He was trapped inside the vehicle with major head injuries. He was riding with his border Collie, Jill, who was injured but survived.

About a half-hour before the crash, Ryan tweeted about going hiking with Jill along with a photo of them on the trail, leading to some speculation that he was actually doing his post while behind the wheel.

The case is now closed.
