Lady Gaga and David Bowie! The outrageous fame monster and the glam man behind Ziggy Stardust! The ultimate dream team, right?

In your dreams.

Bowie is calling hoax on "news" that he's collaborating with Gaga for the "Alejandro" star's forthcoming third album.

"I guess some folk see what they want to see…, and now the [rumor] that David Bowie has been working with Lady Gaga seems to have taken off," a post on Bowie's official site reads.

The rumor's point of origin apparently was a Gaga fan site's message board. From there, the item, complete with a claim of insider record-label info and a bogus document listing Bowie's involvement, was picked up by the mainstream press, but later denounced by the fan site as a fake.

Apparently vexed the "tall story" hasn't been cut down to size fast enough, Bowie's camp is trying to make one thing clear. Per the legend's site: "[I]n a nutshell, the suggestion that David Bowie is producing and participating in the production of Lady Gaga's next album is untrue and a hoax."

Well, it was a nice dream while it lasted. At least we'll always have mashups on YouTube.
