Why, and how, is Gloria Allred always in the center of cheating allegations?

Yep, superlawyer Gloria Allred sure does represent a lot of alleged mistresses.

Take Rachel Uchitel, also rumored to be Tiger's extracurricular, club-ready lady No. 1, and Joslyn James, also known as Tiger's porn lady No. 2, as well as Jesse James' anonymous mystery mistress No. nobody's really sure and whoever that girl was who supposedly broke up Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush but who really didn't.

Now there's this brand-new person who apparently had an affair with David Boreanaz. And given that Allred has repped all of these folks, your question seems valid.

So let's ask Allred herself:

I got her on the blower to address your question.

"Well," she told me today, "there are many women who have been hurt by rich, powerful, famous celebrities, and often those women will come to me for protection and support in asserting whatever legal claims they may have."

For the purposes of context, you should know that, overall, Allred is often more of a general women's rights lawyer than a celebrity mistress lawyer.

She also, for example, represented a woman who was humiliated during an airport security search. And Allred repped actress Hunter Tylo, whose bosses tried to can her from her gig on the original Melrose Place after she became pregnant.

"We do more women's rights cases than any other firm in the nation," Allred told me.

So when it comes to representing mistresses of famous men, it's less about publicity—though there's always plenty of that where Allred is concerned—and more, she says, about making sure the "other women" don't get stepped on once it's all over.

Allred arranges press conferences and cash settlements on behalf of clients, for example, and runs interference between her client and other lawyers or no-goodniks. In the case of Boreanaz's mistress, for example, Allred has claimed that her client was being intimidated by the actor's lawyer before Allred got involved.

"Marty Singer attempted to contact a woman who had a romantic relationship with David Boreanaz. She then retained me," Allred said in a statement. "I then contacted Mr. Singer on her behalf to find why Mr. Singer was calling her...My client has not told her story to the press, but now that Mr. Boreanaz is attacking her, she has decided to tell the story of their relationship, so that the truth will come out."

Allred has also pointed out that another one of her clients, Uchitel, is not the same person who retained her in the Boreanaz matter. So that's another kind of work Allred does—she keeps all the ladies straight with the media.

It's a dizzying job, but someone has to do it.
