Sean Penn has been called many things…now it's time to add "hero" to the list.

The actor has been in earthquake-ravaged Haiti for more than a month, helping out along with the group he created, the Jenkins-Penn Haitian Relief Organization. But until now, we didn't realize how hands-on his work has been.

Penn traveled 90 minutes outside Port-au-Prince to rescue a woman and child trapped in the rubble caused by an aftershock. Once he freed them, he reportedly drove them to the University of Miami hospital camp and is staying with them until they have a safe place to go.

While his rep, Mara Buxbaum, couldn't confirm all the details of the star's big save, she tells E! News, "Yes, a version of that story happened. Sean Penn, his amazing volunteers, with the J/P HRO, doctors and military all contribute. Real stories of lifesaving go on everyday with his organization."

A round of applause (and maybe a donation) is in order!
