Screw the 2012 election. Maybe Sarah Palin's gunning for a spot on Saturday Night Live.

The former governor of Alaska showed up on The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien Friday after William Shatner had given one of his signature dramatic readings, this one from Palin's new memoir, Going Rogue:An American Life (with bongo accompaniment, of course).

"I think Bill did a great job, yeah, and I think it's only appropriate that I read a few choice excerpts from Mr. Shatner's autobiography, Up Till Now," Palin said.

"I attended my first Star Trek convention in November, 1975," she began. "The money they offered me to attend this convention was—Do I dare? Yes, I do—out of this world."

Then on to a T.J. Hooker anecdote, and so on.

Judging by the look on Shatner's face, even he had no idea just how powerful his prose could be.

"Good to finally see those two together, don't you think?" joked Conan.
