Andy Cohen won't be tardy to share his reaction to Kim Zolciak and Kroy Biermann's divorce news.
"I was very surprised," he said on the May 9 episode of SiriusXM's Andy Cohen Live. "That was not the news I ever expected to get."
Why? Well, as the Watch What Happens Live host explained, "They seemed so much in love and just together. I mean, they were a couple that, yeah, I thought they were in it for the long haul. Very surprised."
After 11 years of marriage, Kroy filed for divorce from Kim in Atlanta on May 5, with him stating in the petition that their marriage is "irretrievably broken." According to a copy of the filing obtained by E! News, the former football player is seeking sole legal and physical custody of his four minor children with The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum: Kroy Jr., 11; Kash, 10; and twins Kaia and Kane, 9. The former couple also share two adult daughters: Brielle, 26, and Ariana, 21.
Meanwhile, Kim is seeking primary physical custody and joint legal custody of their minor children, per documents obtained by TMZ. She also reportedly called their marriage "irretrievably broken with no hope of reconciliation" in the documents and listed their date of separation as April 30.
As for whether Andy has heard from Kim since learning of her divorce from Kroy?
"[I] texted a little bit with Kim yesterday, sent my condolences because it's a sad thing," he continued. "They have kids, and that was just a couple that seemed very much in love."
The breakup news comes six months after Kim spoke about what makes her marriage to Kroy work, stressing the importance of communication.
"Choosing to love that person day in and day out, I think it's a choice," the Don't Be Tardy star told E! News in November, "and a lot of times people are just so quick to throw in the towel."
Kroy also reflected on whether he thought sharing their lives on TV helped or hurt their relationship.
"Whether you're married on camera or a regular person married, I don't think there's any difference," he told E!. "And I think when things get tough, people don't want to stay true to their vows and stay true to their partner. They'd rather just say screw it and try it on the next one, but you got to hold true to your promises that you gave that person when you were standing in front of your friends and family."
