Priscilla Presley is expressing her gratitude for all the love sent her way after the passing of her daughter Lisa Marie Presley.
Lisa Marie was laid to rest next to her son Benjamin Keough, who died by suicide at age 27 in 2020, at Graceland Mansion in Memphis, Tenn. on Jan. 22. The estate is also where her father, Elvis Presley, is buried.
"Thank you all for your condolences, you have touched me with your words," Priscilla tweeted on Jan. 23. "It has been a very difficult time but just knowing your love is out there makes a difference."
Lisa Marie, who died at the age of 54 on Jan. 12, was honored at a public memorial service that was attended by stars including Elvis actor Austin Butler; family members including Priscilla and Lisa Marie's three daughters Riley Keough, Harper Lockwood and Finley Lockwood; and many adoring fans.
The service consisted of several musical tributes and readings, including a message Priscilla read that was written by one of her granddaughters.
"Lisa Marie Presley was an icon, a role model, a superhero to many people all over the world," she said. "But Mama was my icon, my role model, my superhero, in much more ways than one. Even now, I can't get across everything there is to be understood or known about her, but as she always said, 'I'll do my best.'"
She also recited a poem titled "The Old Soul" that was about Lisa Marie's life.
"In 1968, she entered our world, born tired, fragile, yet strong," Priscilla shared. "She was delicate but was filled with life. She always knew she wouldn't be here too long. Childhood passes by, with a glimpse of her green eye, she then grew a family of her own. Then came her second child, leaving her with suspicion: could this be the angel that takes me home?"
She added, "Time, of course, flew by. It was time for a tragedy. She knew it was close to the end. Survivor's guilt, some would say, but a broken heart was the doing of her death. Now, she is home where she always belonged, but my heart is missing her love. She knew that I loved her. I fear I'll never touch her. But the Old Soul is always with me. She doesn't drift above."
Before stepping off the stage, Priscilla said, "Our heart is broken. Lisa, we all love you."
In addition to Priscilla's tribute, Riley's husband, Ben Smith-Petersen, read a letter his wife wrote titled "A Letter to My Mama."
"Thank you for being my mother in this life," he read. "I am eternally grateful to have spent 33 years with you. I'm certain I chose the best mother for me in this world, and I knew that as far back as I remember you."
In the letter, Riley shared her memories of her mother, from Lisa Marie singing her lullabies to taking her for ice cream after school.
"I remember how it felt to be loved by the most loving mother I've ever known," Ben said while reading Riley's words. "I remember how safe it felt to be in your arms. I remember that feeling as a child and I remember that feeling two weeks ago on your couch. Thank you for showing me that love is the only thing that matters in this life. I hope I can love my daughter the way you loved me, the way you loved my brother and my sisters."
