When Yellowjackets returns to Showtime for season two on March 24, fans can expect to see a few new faces.
Among them will be Lauren Ambrose—and she couldn't be more grateful about joining the cast of extraordinary women.
As she prepares to tackle the adult version of Liv Hewson's Van, who is among the survivors of the 1996 plane crash, Ambrose told E! News all about the "unique experience" it was getting to work alongside other female actors who've had a long history in Hollywood.
"Just to work with so many women my age, that's very rare," she shared candidly. "Looking at that call sheet, I actually welled up with tears."
The women to which she's referring are, of course, Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Christina Ricci and Juliette Lewis. The foursome famously charmed critics and audiences alike in season one, leading to seven Emmy nominations and an early season three pickup on top of season two.
"I hadn't had the opportunity to be a part of something where so many women had similar roads being in the business for a long time," Ambrose added. "We're survivors in our own right."
Since season one of Yellowjackets kept some of its stars' fates a secret, Ambrose also detailed the creative process behind crafting her new character alongside Hewson's established one.
"Liv did their work and then I come in to do my version of it. A lot can change in 25 years. If I tried to do an impression of young Van, I think that'd be weird," Ambrose explained. "We had some great meals and hung out. I got to watch Liv and Jasmin (Savoy Brown) shoot some beautiful scenes together and watch them work together. That was really informative and really helpful."
Also returning for season two are Sophie Nélisse, Sophie Thatcher, Sammi Hanratty, Steven Krueger, Kevin Alves and Warren Kole. Additionally, Elijah Wood, Simone Kessell, Nia Sondaya and Nicole Maines will be joining the cast, while Jason Ritter and François Arnaud will appear in guest spots.
But while she's happy to call them all co-stars, Ambrose did admit she's a Yellowjackets fan first and foremost. She recalled: "I watched the show and just loved it so much. Like, 'I love this show, why can't I be on this show?' And then this opportunity came along."
