Kim Petras was truly the baddest on the red carpet.
The pop star pulled out all of the fashion stops for the 2022 American Music Awards on Nov. 20. While attending the awards show at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, the 30-year-old channeled her inner Britney Spears with her strapless denim dress and coordinating handbag.
Kim's Blumarine design, which came fresh off the spring/summer 2023 runway, featured a bustier-like neckline with gold-studded embellishments and a dramatic fishtail skirt that fanned out on the red carpet. The "Unholy" singer didn't miss a beat with her accessories either, styling the denim dress with a thick belt and a massive bejeweled cross necklace.
As for her glam? She kept it effortlessly chic with barely-there makeup by Gilbert Soliz and sexy straightened strands by hairstylist Iggy Rosales (who used ghd hot tools to create the look).
The German star's outfit seemingly paid tribute to the iconic denim dress Britney wore to the 2001 American Music Awards.
At the time, Britney dropped jaws in a strapless patchwork gown by Kurt and Bart, which she paired with a diamond-embellished choker, bedazzled denim handbag and silver belt.
Making the red carpet moment more memorable, Britney twinned with her then-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake, who suited up in a denim blazer, matching pants, shirt and cowboy hat.
"It was kind of like their prom," Steven Gerstein, who created Justin's 2001 AMAs outfit, told Jezebel about their coordination. "They had an idea, and we did what they wanted as opposed to the other way around. The rest is history."
While Kim put her own spin on Britney's legendary look, it's clear she's been inspired by Y2K fashion. As of late, she's been pairing mini-skirts with crisscross halter tops that are reminiscent of Christina Aguilera's early aughts style.
Knowing that "The Baddest" singer is expected to take the stage at the 2022 American Music Awards, it's only a matter of time before she wears another swoon-worthy ensemble at the event.
