Robert Pattinson, Twilight, Christian Bale, Dark Knight

Gone is the Superbad funny business of yesteryear. Teenage romance and men in masks are what the 2009 MTV Movie Awards are all about.

That swoony, mushy love stuff—we're lookin' at you, Twilight, High School Musical 3: Senior Year and Slumdog Millionaire—and the studly superheroes—Iron Man, The Dark Knight—square off in the Best Movie category...and just about every other competition as well.

Not surprisingly, the vampires earned the most chances at the golden popcorn with seven nominations, including Male Breakthrough Performance for both Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, Female Performance for Kristen Stewart (apparently, she's already broken through) and Best Kiss.

They'll be up against the dump divers of Slumdog Millionaire with six of 'em—for stars Dev Patel and Freida Pinto in the Breakthrough Actor and Actress categories, as well as for their, er, dump diving in Best WTF Moment.

HSM3 landed in third place with five nods, guaranteeing an appearance from Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. The Dark Knight earned four, including a shoo-in Best Villain honor for Heath Ledger. Miley Cyrus squeezed out two winks, for Female Breakthrough Performance and Best Song from a Movie, while one of her idols, Angelina Jolie, took three.

Andy Samberg, who's not actually the love child of Jack Black and Michael Cera, hosts the silly spectacular. Two new races have been introduced this year: the aforementioned Best WTF Moment and Best Song From a Movie. Best Summer Movie So Far, which earned Iron Man its first award last year, has been axed from the lineup.

This year marks the first year the network opened the nominating committee to anyone with a computer, allowing the audience to vote for the films they want to see take home the coveted prize.

Hunger-inducing buckets of popcorn will be handed out live on MTV on May 31. Here's the full list of nominees:
