UPDATE: Tory Lanez has pleaded not guilty to assault and gun charges related to the shooting of former friend and rapper Megan Thee Stallion.
The 28-year-old fellow rapper made his plea during an arraignment at a Los Angeles court on Wednesday, Nov. 18.
In October, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said in a statement that Tory, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was "charged with assaulting a female friend" on July 12. While Megan, 25, is not identified by name, details and dates described in the press release match up to her previous statements about the alleged crimes.
"The defendant and the 25-year-old victim got into an argument while riding in an SUV in the Hollywood Hills," the statement said. "The victim exited the vehicle and Peterson is accused of shooting several times at her feet and wounding her."
Tory was charged with one felony count each of assault with a semiautomatic firearm—personal use of a firearm—and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. Los Angeles prosecutors also said he faces a gun allegation and is accused of personally inflicting great bodily injury. He faces a possible maximum sentence of 22 years and eight months in prison if convicted.
After he was charged, Megan was granted a protective order against the rapper, under which he was ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from her.
Lanez is due back in court on Jan. 20, 2021. The care remains under investigation.
On July 15, Megan confirmed in an Instagram post that she "suffered gunshot wounds as a result of a crime that was committed against me and done with the intention to physically harm me." She added, "The police officers drove me to the hospital where I underwent surgery to remove the bullets."
"I'm incredibly grateful to be alive and that I'm expected to make a full recovery," Megan shared. "But it was important for me to clarify the details about this traumatic night. I'm currently focused on my recovery so I can return back to my life and back to making music as soon as possible."
In August, Megan went on Instagram Live and claimed Tory was the person who fired the gun and caused her injuries.
"Yes, this n---a Tory shot me," she alleged in a video reshared on Twitter. "You shot me, and you got your publicist and your people going to these blogs lying and s--t. Stop lying."
Tory appeared to deny Megan's accusations in a 17-track album released last month.
According to Variety, the hour-plus long album titled Daystar contains songs with lyrics that appear to be about the case. In the opening track titled "Money Over Fallouts," Tory reportedly rapped, "How the f--k you get shot in your foot, don't hit no bones or tendons?"
