Christie Brinkley's daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook is ready to step into her mom's dancing shoes.

The 21-year-old celebrity agreed to take her mother's place on Dancing With the Stars after the 65-year-old model suffered an injury that removed her from the competition.

"While rehearsing for the premiere of Dancing with the Stars, Christie Brinkley suffered injuries which required surgery to her wrist and arm. She is unable to continue her planned participation on the show," BBC Studios and ABC said in a statement to E! News. "Keeping it all in the family, her daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook, a Sports Illustrated model, has chosen to quickly step in with hours to learn the entire routine and will compete in her mother's place for the remainder of the season. We wish Christie a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her in the audience, whenever possible, proudly supporting Sailor."

The substitution was certainly a last-minute one, especially considering the 28th season of Dancing With the Stars premieres Monday evening.

Despite the disappointment, it seemed like Brinkley was in good spirits and ready to be her daughter's biggest cheerleader.

"Showbiz is all about getting a break, and Sailor and I both got one on Dancing with the Stars this season," she said in a statement to Good Morning America, which broke the news. "Sailor joined the cast when I got mine…ouch somebody stop me, it hurts to laugh!"

As for Brinkley-Cook, she's already started learning her mom's routine.

"I'm doing this mostly for my mom! I just want to make her happy and make her proud," she told GMA. "She loved doing this, she loves dancing and she loves performing and getting hurt was her worst nightmare."

Even though Brinkley-Cook admitted competing on Dancing With the Stars is something she was "so afraid of," she said she's ready to face her fears.

"I think it will change me," she told GMA.

Brinkley also opened up about the change on Instagram.

"Sailor Breezes in to save the day!" she wrote. "I just broke my arm into a 1000 pieces requiring surgery with a metal plate and screws to hold my arm together..Im so sorry! Only something like that cold stop me from continuing to dance with my wonderful coach...I was having a blast! It was quite literally a crushing disappointment, I never ever want to let anyone down, so I looked for a silver lining and i think this one is solid gold! But first I would have to convince Sailor to replace me , (Alexa has commitments in NY including her upcoming Cabaret Show l @cafecarlyle) But my student/ @imgmodels Sailor would have to overcome serious stage fright! Sailor always meets her challenges head on and realized she did not want to be defined by her fears so with just hours to learn my routine she is turning my defeat or should i say two left feat into her own victory of courage! So Ladies and Gents I give you my beautiful Sunflower Sailor Lee. And I think you are all going to have a blast together on this season of @dancingabc!"

The proud mom then apologized for the typos on her post—"it's my right arm!"—and thanked Brinkley-Cook for taking on the role.

"And Sailor thank you for taking a very disappointing turn of events into something very special!" she added. "You know Showbiz is all about getting a break and I guess you can say Sailor and I both got one on this season of @dancingabc #teamsailaV c'est la vie!"

Brinkley-Cook will compete against several other celebrities, including Hannah Brown, Kel Mitchell, Kate Flannery, Ally Brooke and Karamo Brown. To see the full list of contestants, click here.
