Alexis Arquette Dead at 47

The transgender actress famously starred in more than 50 films

Alexis Arquette has passed away at the age of 47, E! News can confirm.

Brother Richmond Arquette reportedly confirmed the news on his Facebook page, writing, "Our brother Robert, who became our brother Alexis, who became our sister Alexis, passed this morning September 11 at 12:32 a.m. He was surrounded by all of his brothers and sisters, and one of his nieces and several other loved ones...As per his wishes, we cheered at the moment that he transitioned to another dimension."

Every sibling including David Arquette and Patricia Arquette would later release a statement confirming the news. "She passed away surrounded by love," the message read. "We held her and sang her David Bowie's 'Starman' as she punched through the veil to the other side. We washed her body in rose petals and surrounded her with flowers."

Alexis famously acted in more than 50 films spanning her decades-long career, notably in Last Exit to Brooklyn and as a Boy George impersonator in The Wedding Singer and again in 2014's Blended alongside Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler

She also guest-starred on multiple episodes of CalifornicationFriends and Xena: Warrior Princess. A documentary about her transition, Alexis Arquette: She's My Brother, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2007.

Her brother's post continued, "I am feeling immense gratitude to have been afforded the luxury of sharing life with him/her, for learning from Alexis, for being the gift of being able to love her/him and to be loved by him/her. He was a force."

"He died as he lived, on his own terms. i am immensely grateful that it was fast and painless. It was an incredibly moving experience and I am humbled and grateful to have been able to have been with him as he began his journey onward. Thank you Alexis, I love you and will love you always," Arquette concluded. 

David also took to social media, expressing gratitude for the support he felt following his sister's passing. Sharing a black and white photo of the two, he tweeted, "Thank you all for your love and kind words about Alexis. My hero for eternity." 

The family asks that in lieu of flowers or gifts, donations please be sent to organizations that support the LGBTQ community in honor of Alexis.
