The actress, 69, and the actor, 64, met while filming 1968's The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band, but they didn't begin dating until reconnecting on the set of 1984's Swing Shift. But perhaps their most famous collaboration—aside from raising four children together—is the 1987 comedy Overboard.
Last night, the longtime couple was feeling nostalgic and decided to watch the Garry Marshall movie. "Kurt n I snuggled up and watched Overboard together," Hawn told her 631,000 Twitter followers. "The first time we have seen it all the way thru since it came out," she wrote, adding, "Now that's Romance."
The film holds a special place in their kids' hearts, too. As Kate Hudson recalled in an Entertainment Weekly podcast last summer, her brother Wyatt Russell, now 29, "took his first steps on Overboard. We were living in Mendocino [in California]. It's so funny. I guess from the outside...for us, it was just mom and dad working, and that was cool because it was summer and they were together. It was sort of normal for us," she said. "But, yeah, Overboard. We were on set the whole time."
Asked to recite her favorite lines from the film, she first chose one of her father's. "He goes, 'Oh, c'mon, Annie. Just take a guess.' And she looks at him. It's so funny!" she said. "Or when she's in the back of the truck and she's [at a loss for words]. One of my favorite ad-libs when she looks at the guy and she goes, 'Eat your checkers.' My mom is so wonderful and talented. My mom is this added effervescence. What she is and what she eliminates, it's a gift. She has something that just makes people happy...When you grow up with a mother like that, you really honor it. You only hope that you can carry that on to your own kids, because when I think about my mom, I think of love and light and real compassion. I hope that when [Ryder Robinson] or [Bing Bellamy] look at me at some point they feel the same love."
Last week, while promoting NBC's Running Wild With Bear Grylls, Hudson, 36, revealed that she recently showed her elder son, 11, a film that changed her life forever: 2000's Almost Famous. "Cameron Crowe, that film...he's amazing," the actress told E! News of the director. "For me, it's more about being a part of it with him and everybody else in it. And the experience we all had on it was really special. So, there's that, and then there's the movie. I let Ryder watch it. It's rated R. Ryder's like, 'Please, mom, can I watch Almost Famous?' And I was like, 'You know what? Yeah. You can watch it.' To watch him experience the movie and fall in love with the movie 15 years later just says everything about Cameron's work."
Best of all, Hudson added, "I got to be cool for like a week."
