It sounds like the end of Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon's marriage could be near.

Following lots of marriage drama and countless reports they're headed for a split, a source close to the couple's rocky relationship tells E! News, "Mariah has started the divorce process. She's getting all her ducks in a row."

According to the insider, "Nick recently asked if she wanted to bring in a marriage counselor" to help them with their issues but Carey is still upset about Cannon's comments to the press regarding their troubles. "She won't be caught off-guard again," the source dished. "She was devastated when he spoke out about their issues. She's started the proceedings to make sure the ball is in her court from now on."

In addition to prepping for a possible divorce, the pop star has been spending time in Atlanta with their twins, Moroccan and Monroe. "Mariah's been looking at houses. She may want to spend time in Atlanta after the tour. She's not too sure about anything right now, but she has been seeing houses," the source says. "She's good though. She's doing better than people think."

Carey has been at business meetings this week in Atlanta with writers and producers, and she's been hunting for a temporary abode in the upscale Buckhead area of the city.

As for how Cannon is doing amid the marriage drama, the insider says, "Nick's been talking about giving things another try. He wants another chance."

And despite angering Carey by talking to the press, Cannon took to Twitter today to talk very publically about their issues. "What infuriates me most is to hear people slander @MariahCarey . I will forever be in debted to her for blessing me with our children... I will always love her unconditionally for this and so much more. @MariahCarey is an amazing Mother and I trust her wholeheartedly," the America's Got Talent host wrote.

"I love @MariahCarey and that will never change!!!" he went on. "If the media wants to portray me as the Bad guy that's fine...But it is unfair to drag innocent people into the equation...Others have lives, families, and careers and for the media to slander them is down right evil and illegal...I apologize to anyone who's gotten caught up in this unwarranted drama."

He ended with, "'Don't worry about my life, worry about why you're worried about my life!'...And finally, 'Trouble in Paradise' is the dumbest phrase I've ever heard! I would never say that sh!t."
