Ottavio Missoni, Fashion Brand Patriarch, Dead at 92

Man who founded a fashion dynasty and made zigzag styles trendy has passed away

A fashion legend has passed.

Ottavio Missioni, the patriarch of the Italian fashion brand known for his colorful designs and zigzag patterns, died Thursday at his home in Sumirago, Italy. He was 92.

"The Missoni Family announces that Ottavio Missoni passed away peacefully at home at the age of 92, surrounded by his Family," the family said in a statement to E! News. "The day and time of his burial will be communicated soon."

This sad news comes just months after the disappearance of a small plane carrying Ottavio's son, company CEO Vittorio Missoni.

Ottavio founded the fashion brand in 1952 with his wife, Rosita Jelmini.. Since then the company has grown into a major name in fashion and with countless celebrity fans.

The funeral will be held Monday May 13. There will be a viewing at the family home on Sunday May 12.
