David Hasselhoff Joins Campaign to Save Remains of Berlin Wall

Actor revisits the site he performed at in 1989 to protest against plans to make room for apartments

David Hasselhoff is giving some folks in Germany another reason to love him.

The former Baywatch star, who's a bit of a pop icon over there, was in the country's capital over the weekend to protest against plans to remove a remaining part of the Berlin Wall in order to make room for apartments.

While there, Hasselhoff entertained the crowd by belting out the song "Looking for Freedom," the same tune he sang in 1989 shortly after the wall dividing East and West Germany was torn down.

"This last piece of the wall is really sacred; it's the last memorial to the people who died and to the perseverance of freedom," Hasselhoff told his fellow protestors regarding the East Side Gallery, a 3/4- mile stretch of wall that has been painted by artists and is a popular destination spot for tourists.

Hasselhoff added, "If it goes to the next step, we'll come back with a huge concert and really rock Berlin."
