Being vegetarian has been a longtime Hollywood health (and lifestyle) choice. But for many celebs, being vegetarian alone just isn't enough. Stars like Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain and Jenny McCarthy have upped the ante and made the pledge to be full-fledged vegans.

So, what exactly is the difference?

While both groups swear off eating meat, fish or poultry, vegans take it a step further and eliminate all animal products from their diets. This means saying sayonara to things like cheese, eggs, yogurt and milk. When Russell Brand made the switch, he tweeted, "I'm now vegan, goodbye eggs, hello Ellen."

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi actually overhauled their eating habits together when they decided to go vegan, as did celeb couple Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell.

Think you're ready to make the switch? As Olivia Wilde told Ecorazzi, truly committing to the vegan lifestyle is tough stuff. It involves a whole lot more than just abstaining from meaty meals and ditching dairy products. Vegans generally won't even wear wool, silk, down or any other product that has been made from an animal.

What are your thoughts on living this life? Could you commit to it?  Sound off in the comments!
